Honey Basil Beef is a sweet, Thai inspired dish that is best served over Katie’s favorite carb. (rice)
I have been trying to create a dish like this Honey Basil Beef for quite a while. Sweet, herb-y, unique in flavor, and insanely YUMMY. I love to use honey in my cooking. I love a little sweetness, and I despise the idea of adding white sugar to a dinner recipe. I’ll add brown sugar in moderation if it’s needed, but I struggle to add white sugar. Maybe it’s just me. But honey is by far my preferred method of sweetening up a dinner dish.
So, as you can imagine, this Honey Basil Beef is sweet, and it has basil. Basil is such a good friend! It’s seriously so complimentary in so many things. Pesto, Pad Thai, Italian food, spaghetti sauce, salads, dressings, you name it! There are so many good foods out there that include basil!
Super quick
I think this Honey Basil Beef is one of my quickest recipes to make. I couldn’t believe how little time it took when I was timing myself while making this. It is definitely a walk-in-the-door-and-throw-it-on kind of meal. If your ground beef is not fully thawed out it won’t be quite as speedy, so you would benefit by having your beef defrosted.
Pairings
Rice
I would recommend eating this dish with rice. It is made for rice, and tastes the absolute best with a super flavorful rice. My personal favorite is this Jasmine rice, which I buy at Aldi in a huge bag.
Sauteed Cabbage
I sauteed some cabbage and served that with it as well. That was super tasty. I just thinly sliced about 1/4 head of green cabbage and stir fried it in a skillet with 2 Tbsp. of oil, 2 tsp. sesame seeds, and about 1 tsp. salt. It was a little on the salty side, so I would recommend about 1/2 tsp. for the salt. You can always add more later if you want to. (I add a lot of extra salt to my food because I need higher amounts of sodium than most people, but I think the full tsp. is probably too much for most people.) Just saute everything in the skillet on medium heat for roughly 5 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender-crisp.
Other Vegetables
Steamed broccoli, green beans, and snow peas are other veggies that would also go well with this dish.
